I started running in May 2014 but training regularly since January 2014. In that time I have lost 4 1/2 stone. Running works. I started small and now regularly run 5k and I am building the most I have done is 7k :)))))))) and it makes me happy

I have been running since christmas and have only made very slow progress, I am very overweight and really struggle breathing my legs could keep going but my lungs feel like they are going to explode, I feel now like giving up because I dont feel like I am improving very much and to make matters worse because now it is lighter people have started shouting comments out of cars which is also putting me off should I carry on? will i ever improve and when will it stop hurting my lungs

    • I teach beginners and I would put money on that you are running too fast and getting exhausted quickly.

    • Take a few steps back and try 2:1 ratio of run:walk. So 2 min jog, 1 min walk building up to 5 min jog to 2 min walk

my failed attempts at running in the past due to eating the wrong things .. should of read this months ago.. looking forward to the next run now

The best advice that I can give is to get a good pair of running shoes</a> they don't have to be the most expensive as long as they are comfortable, once you have done that they just get out and get the miles in.
