Whats the best Gadget

Hi all,
I never thought I was too much of a gadget boy but since starting to run a few years ago I have got a Heart rate monitor, a Forerunner 201 GPS unit and have been through 2 ipods and another mp3 player.
The HRM is now becoming really useful and I set my pace using my heart rate not my speed.
The GPS unit is not as useful anymore as there are lots of sites where you can may your run and get accurate distances.
What other gadgets do you have that are worth looking at and is there anything really interesting coming out soon?
Cheers Johnny

Hi Johnny,
I actually used the Nike+ system last night and was pretty impressed. I usually hate anything that is a "fad" but it was easy to use and i`d say 90% accurate with the distance.
Cheers

Hi Casual.
ive looked at them but do you need to run in Nike trainers for them to work?
Im a bit of an Asics person when it comes to trainers so would it work?
Cheers.

Johnny,
You can buy small carry cases that you tie to your shoes laces whcih hold the small footpod. Check out the attached link -

I have tried one but am not hapy with the accuracy but i have heard various stories of this. On one occasion i had thought i had run about 6km yet the Nike+ was stating nearly 10km! On double checking the distance i was right and the Nike+ wrong!!!! There are numerous forums online which have plenty of examples of both scenarios!
Your choice mate,
K

Cheers keegan.
I think I will stick to plotting my run`s on mapmyrun.com, its a really good site.
I`m thinking about a GPS, speed/distance and HRM in one unit. Have you used one of these? Do you know what the benefits would be to having them as seperate pieces?

Hi Guys,
I`ve just started running with an upgrade from my Garmin Forerunner 101,
to a Forerunner 301 with Heartrate Monitor, 13hr battery life, downloadable workouts to your pc/laptop, also recharges the unit.
Great bit of kit, I`m looking forward to the download of the Namibian Ultra.

Cheers Gromit,
I`ve got a Forerunner 201 and polar heart rate so how would having one unit help? I am thinking it would be easier to set sessions based on HR ranges and distances so if you are doing intervals based on 75% of Max HR for 1 mile it would be useful.
And it is smaller than what I have.
When do you go to Namibia? Can`t wait to hear what that one is like, it is on the list which seems to be growing more and more!!.

Johhny,
If you are thinking of a Forerunner 301, I got mine on Amazon £102, and it arrived the next day. Also gives you software and access to web sites to track your training runs.
Have a read of my blog, I`ll update it during the race week if I can, but certainly after the race week.
We fly out to Namibia on April 4th and the 24ht Ultra Marathon race starts on 6th at 09:00.
