Just Starting Out?

  • Have you just decided to go for it in 2013? Are you a newbie runner? Why have you started running? Are you trying to lose weight, running in an event later in the year or is for fitness? Introduce yourself to the community and tell us why you have taken up running this year? Good luck to you and Happy Running

  • Hi I am Running 3000km in the 365 days of 2013 for The karen Green foundation I will be running everyday running a min 5km per day but will have to average 8.2km per day so will be topping up with the odd marathon etc my blog is at  http://wp.me/2P0Cn

  • I've been running for a while, but think January is a great time to think about your goals and start running. My aim for this year is do my first marathon. You could say I am taking my first steps in the world of marathon running. Good luck to all new runners.

  • I started doing some running last year and ran a 5k race and have started again properly to get fitter and looking to run 4-5k most days . Just booked my first race end of next month for 10k so fingers crossed!

  • Hi I have just decided to take up running and am going to do my first run tomorrow. Starting with the walk warm up then two mins jog and two mins walk. My plan is to repeat this six times. I am quite keen at the moment but we will see if that has changed by tomorrow night. I lost weight with weightwatchers in the past six months and running is going to be my way of maintaining that loss and getting a bit fit. I am not an enthusiastic exerciser so I hope to catch the running bug.

  • Hi there, I started last May & had a job to jog for even 2 mins when I started on the couch to 5k plan but its amazing how quickly you build up. As a 40+, ex smoker who had put on a lot of weight I also wanted to lose weight & get fit.

My tips are; take each day at a time, don't be too hard on yourself (you will have bad sessions) & log your miles on bugmiles so you can see how you are progressing. Have rest days every other day, don't try to run every day or you will either put yourself off or gain an injury.

You won't always enjoy every trip out the door (just being honest) but the rewards are huge if you persevere.

Lots of luck & keep us posted.

  • hope all goes well for you :)

  • good advice, im an ex smoker and could run 400 metres 3 months ago, got up to 5k (just) done it twice! in about 33 mins first ever race booked 10th march 5k.

  • I have been thinking about running for some time, got the trainers last year but due to being a somewhat ' larger' lady only managed to get the sports bra this week - I need to lose weight as I have my brother-in-laws wedding to go to in June and would like to look a lot better than I do now. I am starting with the run/walk program this weekend and see how  it goes - getting into better shape fitness wise is also a top priority - wish me luck!

  • I have just started the run/walk programme completed my second run last night. I need to be fitter and slimmer.  I think its good to have a goal to work towards. Good luck x

  • I am brand new to this, haven't run for more than a bus since early 20s (ten years or so) but decided now is the time to start doing something. Gave up cigarettes two years ago, and have piled on the weight since.

I went on my first "run" yesterday, but could only run for less than a minute at a time! Still, we all have to start yesterday.

Felt great all day after though, whether it was a psychological boost or endorphins, it was worth it!

  • I have never really done any running before now, I was coerced into trying it by 2 colleagues.  I'm actually surprised by how much I've enjoyed it so far so fingers crossed I will continue to do so. I've started on a C25k programme, just completed my second week and I can feel the positive effects already!

  • Oi, CharmedOne....no co-ercing took place....well....... :-)

    Have fun all x
