Ah well thats worth a try. I do peoples ironing for a living and mondays are my worst days usually stood for 4 hours solid. Ive tried to run after that and my calves just wont have it, the screw up so tight it brings tears to my eyes so I never run after a lot of standing. Maybe sitting does the same I cant se why not. The only suggesting I would say is, is it possible for you to stretch your calves 2 or 3 times during the day? You probably already do but I didnt until physio suggested it and it has made a difference. So has the foam roller but ouch its not pleasant....have you got one of those?

I have considered the foam roller and I have been wondering about concocting something like it.
Just got back from a walk. I did the 2 miler and timed myself coming back at my 'brisk' pace. 13' 12". This is faster than 4 miles an hour so I have mapped it on the new route map facility here on the Bug and found that it is 1.625km, exactly 1 mile!!! Yoo hoo! Previously I had only measured it in the van when I set off that way.

I went out for an unambitious trot on Sunday morning. Set off at a brisk walk to warm up and then jogged abit. Walked a bit more and then on the second jog I could feel the tension in the calf of my right leg.
I got home and did yet another search and came up with the site above that actualy says the thing about pushing car pedals. Bingo!
I am going to beat this and there will be no 'outings' till I can comforatbly achieve the acceptable stretch. I got some of those heat patches to put on the area with a bandage.
3 weeks to the cruise.
Got another stretchy cohesive bandage as I liked the first one so much. Now I can have one on each leg. The calf stretches are getting habitual, like a funny little dance I do. I can make the exact 'bit' of my leg ache, so it must be the right thing that I am working on. I have also worked on a different way of pressing down the pedals in my van that does not create the repetetive strain in the same place.
Oh dear. I couldn't wait any longer. I got to Nether Heyford early so decided to have a trot through the fields. Only got about a quarter of a mile and the thing in my calf went twang, like some one had whacked me with a rubber band. So I walked back and now I have a huge ice pack strapped to my right calf. Actually its a bag of frozen marrow!
Wow! Last post 9th November. Where have I been? Well I have been giving my calf muscles and tendons a good rest and the next part of the plan is to exercise the weak part to make it stronger at the same time as introducing the stretches.
Only four days work before hols. Steaming out of Southampton on Monday and heading for warmer climes! And not a moment to soon by the sound of the weather forecasters.
Just done 8.4 kms on the road in 1hr 10mins. A fabulous moonlit night. Not a breath of wind. A very enjoyable experience - it was a walk! Plotted it on the route thingy as Overwood Teardrop.
Feeling good. Back from a cruise to the Canary Islands and back. Lots of rest and food, but managed to get in to the 'fitness centre' each morning apart from the last one when there simply wasn't time. I got used to the treadmill eventually, though the rougher seas caused some runner stability problems! Gave the static bikes some stick too. My new Adidas have bedded in well. Enjoyed stretching, and hopefully strengthening, my calf muscle groups on a machine that allowed me to adjust the load and sit down while I was excercising.
I have not been out today.
Phew! It was frosty this morning and very slippery on the pavements and road. I teetered along to the park where I did a mixture of walking, stretching and running along the gravel surfaced 'Broad Walk'. My lungs told me I had achieved very little improvement in my fitness whilst on holiday, but at least my legs are working.
Very good to hear your calf muscles are better, John! I take my hat off to you for going to the gym every morning whilst on holiday. Mornings make so much more sense than evenings but I just can't seem to bring myself to get up early enough.

Hi Liewal, there was a very good reason for being in the gym on the boat first thing. I got to watch us coming in to port. It had the best 'inside' view as it was just above the bridge. Unenergetic types, used to gather in their chairs to spy down on to the wings of the bridge. I would try to make as much noise and sweat to put them off!
Been out in the park today as I have some time off in lieu of the stupid hours I have been working this week. The air is very cold and my chest got rattley after a few walk/jogs along the Broad Walk.
I was amused by a gaggle of school kids going up and down the 60 steps in the 'sports kit' - must have been bloomin' freezin'.
No 'outing' yesterday, too busy with clearing snow, doing shopping and socialising. Got out in the park again today. A bit more jogging than walking today. Cold air making me wheeze again, but sun on snow was dazzlingly good.

An unexpected treat to be able to get out today. Did a manic drive in the van yesterday down to Worthing and back in 'crippled by snow Britain'. I only experienced one sticky spot and that was in Bromsgrove so I stopped for a big brekkie in Morrisons :D.
Very cold air again, so loathed to breath to heavily, hence a lot of walking and stretching to interrupt the jog in the park.
I am thinking about doing the Morecambe Bay Run on July 24th.
Finished work for the Festive Season so got out for a trot in the park on Thursday. A funny thing happened.
A dog appeared from nowhere, it was mainly white and small, and ran between my legs from the side. I clocked it one with my right foot as it came through. The dog yelped and went off to it's master who was quite amused by it getting caught out. She was a young b*i*t*c*h and very excitable. Though I tried to make friends, she would not come to me and fussed around her master. I said that with a bit of luck she will think twice next time she 'plays' with someone running.
I carried on with my session and went home.
In the afternoon I had some computer work to do and sat virtually motionless for the rest of the day, then at around teatime my foot started to ache. I thought maybe I had been sat awkwardly and that the pain would pass. However, my foot got more painfull and got hot. I compared the colour with me left foot and it was decidely pink and warmer to the touch!
I took some ibuprofen after tea and laid an ice pack over it.
It was much better this morning, but there is still a remnance of the problem. How weird is this!!!
On Sunday, or Boxing Day, I went for a walk to the pub. Good training, as it was 4 miles away, and I walked back via two other pubs.
Yesterday I went for a trot in the park and was pleased that it was warmer. Even so I was breathing like an old steam engine. If my legs stay loose then I may get a bit fitter by the end of the hols.
