Career highlights:
After a superb year, Mo's been nominated as BBC's Sports Personality of the Year, with results to be announced on 22nd December.
Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, Mo moved to England in 1993 and had a very successful junior career, culminating in first place at the European Athletics Junior Championships in 2001.
Mo quickly progressed and achieved success as a senior. By 2006 he'd won his first major title at the European Cross Country Championships. He was distraught to get a Silver medal in the 5000m at Gothenburg (missing Gold by half a second) and missed out on the final at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
But the lows were quickly replaced with highs. From 2009, Farah was on a roll, smashing the 3000m indoor record, running 7:40.99 and then improving his own PB to 7:34.47 a few weeks later. A brief bad patch followed due to an iron and magnesium deficiency but in 2010 he reached new heights.
An early season victory at the European Team Championship over 5000m marked the beginning of a successful patch. At the BUPA 10,000m, in May, 2010 he broke the UK road 10k record, running 27:44. His focus for 2010 was the European Championships in Barcelona and a Gold medal in the 10,000 metres. Overtaking Ayad Lamdassem with two laps to go gave him a comfortable lead and a time of 28:24.99. He then went on to win the 5000m, becoming only the fifth man in the 66-year history of the European Championships to achieve the 5000m/10,000m double, and the first for 20 years.
The best was still to come and at last he finally broke David Moorcroft's long standing UK record over 5000m with a world-class 12:57.94 at the IAAF Diamond League Meeting in Zurich.
2011 began with victories at the European Indoor Championships and a win in the New York City Half Marathon. In February he went to the USA to work with Alberto Salazar, the well-known marathon coach.
In June he set another British and European record for 10,000m, 26:46.57, and in July broke the existing UK record for 5,000m, running 12:53.11 in Oregan.
The big one came in August at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Ethiopian Ibrahim Jeilan robbed Gold from Farah in a last lap sprint, but the disappointment was short-lived as Farah went onto win Gold in the 5,000m.
Quirky facts: Muhammed Ali and Ryan Giggs are Mo's heroes.
