Age: 31 (born 19 September 1989)
Club: Sale Harriers Manchester/Notts
Coach: Lloyd Cowan
Event: 110m Hurdles (100 and 200m and long jump)
Career Highlights:
Like fellow hurdler Dai Greene, Andy's a natural sportsman. As well as being offered a trial to play rugby for England, he had a promising career as a footballer and was signed up to play for Notts County as a youngster. His athletics career kicked off in 2006 when he won bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games and European Indoor Championships. The next few years brought success but also injury, that put an end to Lottery funding. But after almost been written off, he bounced back and in 2010 had a great season, with Gold medals at the European Championships, and Commonwealth Games, as well as first place at the European Team Championships.
2011 has seen victories at the Aviva Indoor European Trials, IAAF World Challenge Meeting in Kingston and at the Great Manchester City Games. He was also (somewhat reluctantly) rewarded with surprise Bronze at the World Championships in Daegu, after Dayron Robles was disqualified. In the all time UK rankings, he's top for 200mH, with a PB of 22:30 set in 2010, and 3rd in the 110mH with a time of 13.22.
Quirky facts: As well as a potential career as a professional footballer, Andy also qualified to be a footballer.
