USER REVIEW BY Mike Ovens

Not the most comfortable shoe I have tested; my (narrow) feet felt very restricted and compressed. And because of this the shoe gave very little response during foot strike and they also felt heavier on than they appeared. It wasn’t a very flexible shoe, but that didn't affect my running gait.

The sole comprises a series of "small half moon" shaped studs that didn't provide enough grip on more demanding surfaces. This was confirmed when tackling a steep scree covered, decline. The support was compromised by the restricted feel of the shoe, however the heel, and in particular the achilies support was very comfortable.

The material of the upper doesn't give the impression that it will provide adequate protection or will wear well. Plastic lace hoops give a substandard appearance (but they are possibly there to keep the water out). The design is good – the popular three-stripe Adidas brand.

The price reflects the value of this shoe and this ‘budget shoe’ would suit a casual off-road runner or beginner. I prefer a more technical shoe that provides greater support and protection from the elements/terrain.

  • tr4 great 10/10 for me.

on the left and right side of the trainer, the soft mesh does rip where it creases across the toes, it doesnt bother me as i run them out in about 3months, thats at about 40 to 50k a week.

  • Had a pair of these for about 3 months now and found them extremely comfortable and perfect for trail running. I have completed a few shorter off-road runs and last week did the Lakeland Trails Marathon in very wet conditions, was expecting a few blisters but absolutely no problems, no black toes and not a single blister. The side panels are very porous mesh so water goes in and out easily. Seemed to be good grip on wet rocks and in mud. They are also pretty well cushioned so comfortable on the tarmac stretches. Loads of mud but rinsed off under the tap after the race and they look as good as new. I will be running the Lakeland 50 in them in 3 weeks time. I actually prefer these to my Inov8 Roclite 295s which cost twice as much. A good value shoe.

  • Bought these for running off road on some very muddy and slippery routes. I run in Adidas trainers normaly so new they would suit my foot shape but they do come out on the small side. Had to go up a size. Absolutely great on mud giving confidence to place feet without over striding to miss slippery looking areas. £35 from sports direct. Spot on !

  • had 2 pairs, both broke through the 2nd mesh area back from the toe end on the outside of the foot. lasted about 250, then 300 ish miles. also not good on traversing muddy hills.

  • I've got a pair of these and have found them very comfortable, good grip in most situations. I also like the "leakiness" that the webbing provides, much more suitable than the gore-tex shoes I had before. I'm not sure how long you would expect them to last but I've had them for 9 months running a very moderate 20-25k per week but through very wet and muddy terrain and I now need a new pair of shoes. The webbing near my little toe on both sides tore within a couple of months and now parts of the uppers are coming away from the soles. I guess for the price they were ok but I am looking for a similar but better built shoe earlier than expected.

  • Very very good trainer, the support is excellent and the price is very low for a technical shoe.
