  • 1 pump, diluted to 500ml with water creates a HYPOTONIC drink (3% Carbohydrate), ideal for fast hydration in light or hot training conditions.
  • 2 pumps, diluted to 500ml with water makes an ISOTONIC drink (6% carbohydrate) for regular training and racing.
  • 3 pumps, diluted to 500ml with water makes a HYPERTONIC (9% carbohydrate) drink – a boosted energy solution for intervals and intensive sessions.

User Review by Fiona Bugler

“For someone who’s always short on time and likes quick solutions, and anything that covers more than one thing, this is the perfect product. By varying the dosage of sachet (concentration) you instantly change the type of drink you’re getting – and the energy benefits.

“I mostly used two pumps and then topped up with energy blocks in speed sessions, as I found it a little bit sickly with three pumps, but as always with energy drinks and food it’s down to the individual’s taste.

“The best thing about this product is how easy it is to mix, a real positive – no more gloopy piles of powder stuck to the bottom of the bottle. Another ‘pro’ was the taste, it was fresh and ‘zingy’, and made me want to drink more. As I said, for me, two pumps was enough to keep it from tasting too sickly-sweet.

“You need to invest in the kit: a 2-litre Fuel Tank, a pump, the sachets and a water bottle (although if you’re a seasoned runner like me, you’ve probably got one of these already). But once you’re sorted out, it’s a fairly inexpensive product. It’s £25 for a 2-litre tank, which makes 40 x 500ml isotonic drinks for just 63p, or 80 Hypotonic drinks for just 31p each.

“Nectar reassuringly promises to deliver on “5-ION electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Chloride and Calcium) to maintain optimum hydration.” This is hard to quantify without doing scientific tests, but I drank it combined with plenty of water before runs of between one and three hours, and I’m pleased to say I did avoid dehydration. It was great to know I was getting a quick release energy boost as well as keeping salt levels balanced on longer runs and hot days.”
